After all, chicks dig the longball. Hell, everyone digs the longball. And you know who provides the longball? Designated hitters.
In 2013, all five of the American League homerun leaders made starts as a DH aside from their primary position. The designated hitter takes the bat out of the incompetent hands of a pitcher and puts it into the hands of a hired gun with one goal: to hit the ball, and hit it hard. The position also allows for managers to slot their best batter in the heart of their lineup while simultaneously giving them a day off in the field.
Mandating the DH league-wide will once again make baseball an exciting, offensive sport and bring viewers back to baseball in droves.
