GET TO KNOW JOE
Joe Flaherty is a graduate of Loyola University Chicago's School of Communication with a BA in Broadcast Journalism. He has experience with all mediums of broadcast, especially with TV. He was an assistant producer of the Rambler Sports Locker at Loyola University, which is the first regularly produced broadcast program of any kind in Loyola's history. He contributed to Loyola News Chicago, a weekly campus news broadcast, primarily as the lead sports reporter. His written work has been featured routinely in the sports section of the Loyola Phoenix, including a weekly column titled "Windy City Mo-Joe" and articles covering a variety of team beats. He also has radio experience, participating in the Lunchtime News program that produced two weekly broadcasts on WLUW 88.7 in Chicago. During the summer of 2013, he interned for the Sports Department of ABC 7 Chicago under lead sportscaster Mark Giangreco.
His skills range from on camera to behind the scenes. He produces shows, directs remote crews, shoots footage, conducts interviews, records voiceovers, edits multimedia packages, anchors shows, leads discussion panels, writes articles, and is proficient with behind the scenes work such as operating cameras, teleprompters, sound boards, switch boards, and clip servers.
The main focus of his works are sports, exercise, and nutrition, but he has produced material covering multiple community events near Loyola University's Lake Shore Campus.
Fitting with his interest in sports, he is also employed by the Chicago Cubs on a seasonal basis as an Security Services Ambassador at Wrigley Field. By upholding the "Cubs Code of Conduct," he helps promote a safe and fan-friendly environment at the Friendly Confines, regardless of the outcome on the field.
